Best Indirect Abs Exercises
Like most people working on their six pack, you already know all about the standard abs exercises like crunches, right? But have you considered that this might be the wrong way to go? Maybe, like in so many other areas of life, an indirect approach to developing your abs is better. Did you know that some of the best abs exercises of all, aren’t traditional abs exercises at all? Renegade Dumbbell Rows
Let’s start off with the Renegade Dumbbell Row. Start by holding a dumbbell in each hand, then getting into your usual pushup position. But you don’t do a pushup. Instead, using your legs and other arm to stabilize yourself, row one of the dumbbells to your chest. You’ll feel this in your entire core, including the abs.
Lower the dumbbell to the floor, then row the other dumbbell to your chest, again stabilizing yourself with your legs and the arm that is still down. Together, that makes a single repetition of this exercise.
Mountain Climber
This is another exercise that starts off looking like a pushup, but becomes a very different animal indeed. Starting in pushup position. Draw one of your feet forward as if you were climbing a mountain (even though you are doing this on the floor). As you do this, pull your knee up toward your chest. Push your foot back to its starting position. Repeat with the other leg. That’s one repetition.
Try It For Yourself
Now neither of these exercises may seem like they’ll do much for your abs when you read about them, but they do. But don’t take my word for it. Try them yourself. Replace your normal abs exercises with a few sets of these in your next workout. I think you’ll soon see the light.
