Drills For Soccer: Winning Tactics For Heading Skills
In performing drills for soccer, don’t you get upset when your players are unable to head the ball well? Heading is the main skill that assists the players in learning to maneuver or control the ball while it is still up and about in the air.
It’s likely that in a match the ball might have to take the aerial route to travel from one point to the other. If the players are able to take the possession of the ball using their head, it shall ensure that the team has control of the ball for a maximum number of times.
There are a few soccer drills that focus solely on developing the heading skills of the players. Let’s discuss a few of those:
The players must be divided in groups of 2 to 3 players maximum, prior to starting with these drills.
Heading volleyball: This is a perfect technique to learn to head the ball. Two players can easily carry it out next to each other in such drills for soccer. Herein, the only difference is that players make use of their heads instead of hands to toss the ball over to the other side of the net. Still, they have the freedom to serve the ball with their hands.
Score of the teams is based on the successful attempts made to flip the ball over to the other side of the net. You can make use of badminton net for this.
Juggling: This drill also requires 2 players or even one will do as in the case of pervious drill. If there is one player, he or she can use their forehead to juggle the ball. Just throw the ball in the air and start practicing it. It is natural that this drill among all soccer exercises is the most difficult and the player must practice it hard to get better at it.
In case of 2 players, they can throw the ball in the air and use their heads to throw it back to each other. The player who keeps the ball in the air is the winner.
Throwing the ball; Make two players stand about 10 feet apart. Hurl the ball at them randomly and ask them to head it back. Keep in mind to tell them to jump before hitting the ball. This way, they can learn the trick faster.
Beware that they are instructed to use their forehead or side of the heads. If they do not adhere to this practice, they will have more headaches and also the chances of injury increase manifold.
To get the most out of this soccer practice, the player should get their forehead in line with the approaching ball. Then raise themselves or jump and hit ball hard so that there is maximum momentum.
Your next step! To take what you have just learned and incorporate into the drills for soccer regimen. The sight of them using their head to hit the ball will surprise you.
